Contribution to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals

1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
The building of the school will put out to tender with local construction companies. Also the fabrication of the inventory (tables, chairs, chests etc.) will be granted to laymen from the region. This will offer job opportunities and possibilities of job education for people who did not work in these area's for estimated 100 persons for a period of 5 years. For the personnel of the school we will as much as possible look for experts from the Chitwan region.
The children and the co-workers of the school will have a healty lunch and milk and fruit in the school breaks daily. When the school is fully accomplished this means nutricious food for 600 children and about 46 grownups all year round.

2. Achieve universal primary education
The educational system of Sapana School is especially meant for the children of Dalits en Janajalits, children of the Tharu and children of the lowest caste in Chitwan Nepal. After school time of the children Sapana School provides second chance education for youngsters and grownups who did not have the opportunity to get primary education. The education will be in Nepali and in English.

3. Promote gender equality and empower women
In the admission of children to the school and youngsters and grown ups in the 2nd chance education and other courses we will do this according the norm 1:1. In the appointment of personnel we will do this using the same norm as much as possible.

4. Reduce child mortality
When the school opens for pupils a school nurse will be appointed from the start. She will survey the health of the children in the nursary and in pré school 1 and 2 regularly and she will give information to both parents and great parents.

5. Improve maternal health
The school nurse will, co-operating with other healthcare workers in the area, give information about good and nutricious food and hygiene to young mothers and supply multivitamines and other medicines when needed.

6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
In the classes biology, healthcare and social science information will be given about sexuality, sexual diseases, other dead causing diseases, the importance of good personal hygiene and the consequences of HIV/AIDS. The school nurse will not only work with the pupils; 1 time a week there will be a consulting hour for all people of the area. We intend to, on the long run, to open a first line health center in the premises of Sapana Village.

7. Ensure environmental sustainability
The schoolbuilding will be constructed and built earthquake safe. In the execution starting points of ecological building are used. Solar energy and biogas will be applied for e.g. coocking and heating in winter. In the curriculum at school, in the courses and information for youngsters and grown ups matters like ecological agriculture, cattle breeding, coocking on solar energy and bio gas, the importance of water and healthy drinking water, ecological building, durable energy and evironmental awareness, are of first attention.

8. Develop a global partnership for development
The school will share all its knowledge and experiences with everyone who is interested in this in Nepal and elsewhere. For and with schools in the vincinity study days will be organised to share the experiences. Co-operation is looked for with the George Lucas Foundation USA. The school will also work with original Englisch speaking trainees of leading teacher training colleges from England and the USA.
